Cheesy Baked Onion Rings
Crispy baked onion slices sandwiched between layers of melted cheese, served with a tangy bloomin' onion dipping sauce.
- 2 large white onions
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar and mozzarella blend)
- 2 tbsp prepared horseradish
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
-
1
Preheat oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
2
Prepare onions
Peel the onions and slice them into thick rounds, about 1/2 inch thick. Separate them into individual slices, keeping the rings intact.
-
3
Arrange cheese and onions
Place small piles of shredded cheese on the parchment paper. Place an onion slice on top of each pile, then top each onion slice with more shredded cheese, creating a cheese-onion-cheese sandwich.
-
4
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes until the cheese is golden brown and crispy and the onions are tender.
-
5
Make bloomin' onion sauce
While the onion rings bake, mix together the horseradish, mayonnaise, and ketchup in a small bowl until well combined.
-
6
Serve
Remove the cheesy onion rings from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve immediately with the bloomin' onion dipping sauce.
Use a mix of cheddar and mozzarella cheese for the best flavor and meltiness. Make sure to use parchment paper to prevent sticking. The onion rings are best served immediately while still crispy.
